Join YYDC for SUMMER INTENSIVE 2024 from JUNE 24 to 29: 6 days of immersive training with artistic director Yue Yin and YYDC company faculty at 92NY Buttenwieser Hall at The Arnhold Center. Participants will experience 6 hours daily FoCo Technique ™ training, creative movement research and repertory study.
FoCo Technique™ is an original contemporary dance technique developed by choreographer Yue Yin, fuses elements of Chinese classical dance, folk forms, ballet and contemporary vocabulary. Each day students will participate a technique session approximately 75 min in length and conducted by Yue Yin in a follow-long method following three-stage structure: Activating, Rooting and Mapping. Through three progressive development, the students will train to find the connection between mind and body; build awareness of muscular strength through movements that promotes elasticity and resistance; establish and redefine gravity in order to achieve grounded movement quality and presence; recognize pathways and transitions of the movement and finding continuous motion that contributes to the fluidity.
Carrying the knowledge from the technique training, the students will embark on a choreographic journey with Yue Yin to create in real time. New movement phrase will be created, taught and rehearsed in this 2 hour session. Participating a creative process and utilizing FoCo Technique and immerse yourself in Yue Yin’s choreographic world.
Experience further into the company rehearsal culture by studying an existing repertory with the company’s rehearsal director Grace Whitworth. Be the first group to learn the brand new production SOMEWHERE right after its world premiere at NYLA from June 19 – 22. We will select a section from this new work and take students on an exciting journey.
Complete the intensive with two opportunities within the week to discuss the technique, choreography, artistic career and sharing feedback with Yue Yin and Grace Whitworth as well as company guest.

YYDC SUMMER INTENSIVE is intended for dancers ages 18+ with a well developed understanding of dance technique, fair physical and mental stamina and ready to challenge as well as expand their ability in contemporary movement training.
