SOMEWHERE is the second full length dance production within a trilogy of work conceived and choreographed by YYDC creative director Yue Yin. The work showcases Yue’s original and dynamic FOCO Technique, an admixture of traditional Chinese folk, ballet and western dance movement. SOMEWHERE explores the mystery of our bounded existence within a limitless universe. The work features immersive scenic design by Striped Canary and original musical score by Michel Banabila.

​Showcasing the company’s original movement technique, FoCo Technique, as well as its signature sleek physicality, Through The Fracture of Lightdemonstrates the versatility and range of its dancers as well as Yin Yue’s ability to weave strong rhythmic movement with quiet grace and agility. Fierce group sections seamlessly transition into duets and then back again, culminating with a group composition that builds and grows and amplifies in intensity. The audience is brought to their emotional edge as dancers push on tirelessly toward this final energetic apex. The original score of lingering stringed sounds, Tibetan throat singing and Mongolian melodies enhances the experience of the piece’s elegantly designed choreography and precise, dynamic execution.

Our existence is often measured, remembered, shared and felt by our interactions with space, time and each other. In A Measurable Existence, Yue Yin delves into how we discover aspects of ourselves by discovering others. The moment we realize our journeys parallel, intersect, repel or collide with others’ experiences, we begin a new understanding of our own existence that may frighten, challenge and, at the same time, sustain us.

A Measurable Existence was commissioned by Gibney Company with generous support from Andrew A. Davis, a trustee of the Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund.

It’s dynamic and expressive movement, together with dramatic original musical scoring, explores the intensity of the times we are living now, the challenges we face together and the political environment that surrounds and influences us The dancers and their movements celebrate our common sense of hope and determination.
